recently, my cat has picked up some really bad and weird peeing habits. she killed several of my houseplants by using them instead of the litter box, and when i put all the plants outside for the summer, she started using the bathroom sink. i’m at a loss, since i’ve never before had a cat with litter box issues. i’ve been keeping a little water in the sink at all times, and that seems to deter her. and when i bring the plants in at the end of summer, i’m going to have to figure out how to protect them. i’m thinking kebab skewers or tinfoil or chickenwire. anyone else have a suggestion?

Maybe find out from a vet or someone knowledgeable as to why she’s not using the litter box, and figure out how to retrain her to use it?
One of my parents’ cats used to pee underneath a bookcase in the basement when they didn’t change the litter often enough to suit the cat. He was a very picky cat.
Picking up on what Yoko said, no one likes to clean the cat box and no one likes to clean it more than they have to, but you may have to clean it more for your cat. The Man puts tin foil in his pots to deter our cats.
she seems to still be using the litter box to pee in as well. i have been keeping it extra-clean, and i even tried a new fresher-smelling litter. i’m thinking about taking her to the vet one day this week to rule out some kind of UTI.
The bathroom sink? I’ve not heard of that before… ew. Hugh was really picky about the litter box, too, but he was never a climber so I didn’t have to worry about him going anywhere above the ground. He did, however, try to eat plants so I had to buy ones that were higher so he couldn’t reach them. I hope it’s something easily treatable.
Good thinking about the UTI. My cats haven’t had a UTI in so long that I forgot about them.
