dogwalking

friday i had the day off since most of our center was at a conference, so i decided to tag along with seuss on his dogwalking duties. his clients are all over the city: west philly, delaware ave, northern liberties, fairmount, north philly. he rides his bike to get to them all, with a little supplemental el train. i haven’t been on a bike in about a year (at least) so it was a big challenge from the get-go. i quite like riding in the city, despite the bad attitude of drivers towards cyclists. we always ride in the street, as if we were cars ourselves (which is what you are actually supposed to do, no matter how many cabbies honk at you and cut you off). it’s a challenge to keep up with seuss, who is something of a daredevil, but it’s more satisfying if i do.
so, i made it through three clients before my poor butt bones started to really ache, and my thighs started to give out, and i couldn’t stand up or sit down while pedaling. i don’t know how seuss does this every day, but he likes it, so i’ll leave him to it.

  1. cheers to riding in the street. it took me months before i could get from pt. A to pt. B without crying more than half the time, but it’s worth it. definitely the best way to get around the city.
