at the italian market festival in south philly i suddenly overcame my shyness about asking to take pictures of strangers. i had to! how could i pass josephine by? when she shook my hand, she had that amazingly soft, smooth old lady skin. she didn’t seem overly surprised by my request…perhaps other people had been asking for her photo all day? she was definitely the most distinctive-looking woman there. and i did see another photographer across the street with a zoom, trying to catch her through the crowd.
