lyme disease!

at the vet copyright Miss Plum.

the vet just emailed me to say that goddie has lyme disease, and that is causing her limp. when we took her to the old vet, over a year ago, he also tested her for lyme, but told us it was negative. so, poor girl has been all gimpy for over a year for no good reason. she’s getting a 28-day treatment prescription, that should give us results in just a couple of days, and hopefully she’ll be back to her healthy self, and we can walk off some of the extra pounds she’s been packing on. what a relief! (and to think, that other jackass vet told us we might have to amputate! people of philly, be advised, o’neal animal hospital stinks.)

I also had a bad experience @ O’Neal … the vaccine they gave my (then) puppy almost killed him. I have never returned. I now take my pooch to Phila. Animal Hospital (63rd/Lindbergh Blvd.) and LOVE it there.
Glad your vet figured out what was ailing your pup.

I hear great things about Society Hill, and I hope that this treatment for Lyme disease does the trick. Wishing you guys all the best.

  4. Although it’s not necessarily good news, it’s better news than amputation. Get better soon, God.

thanks everyone. katia–i’m so glad your puppy didn’t die! they are really a lame vet hospital.

mostly any diagnosis is better than amputation, zanti! there is always the possibility that she might have other damage done by the infection, but we’ll deal with that if it happens. i’ll just be glad to be able to take her for regular walks again.

Jayzus… amputation versus Lyme disease. What?!? Taking a pet to the vet is a nerve-wracking crapshoot. You never know what to believe. But it sounds like you trust the Society Hill people more (and at least they gave you another option besides amputation!), and that’s what counts.

gail, i really can’t believe it myself. it’s so crazy. the new vet was even appalled at the records from the old vet. they faxed them over, and all our pets were combined on one sheet! he asked me when god had a UTI, and i said, “um never. that was the cat.” shocking.

So she’s gonna be okay then right? I’m so glad you’ve got an answer.

True story- a week after getting our girl, we took her to the vet and he told us she needed crazy surgery. I literally began to black out at the stress of it. It’s really embarrassing when you randomly begin to go unconscious!

Best wishes to you and furry!!!

hi amy. she should start to improve within a couple of days of starting the medication. she probably still has some arthritis, so she’ll still be a little stiff, but she’s also on anti-inflammatories. the lyme never goes away completely, but it does go dormant with this medicine. sorry to hear about your vet drama!

Oh our vet drama was 5 years ago, and I find it only entertaining now. Now that I don’t have plenty other stress, but let’s hope a sick dog isn’t ever one of them again.

FYI, we may try to breed her again in the next month, so adorable puppy pictures may be in the future. Awwwww!

    :)
