we took yoyo for a checkup on monday to see how she was doing. she was diagnosed last year with a kidney disease which makes it hard for her to process protein. it’s a terminal illness, but sometimes manageable if caught early enough. she’s been taking meds and eating special food since then, and she’s been looking really good. she’s maintained her weight, and doesn’t seem to be peeing excessively. but the checkup revealed that her kidneys are starting to fail. we’re going to try another medication, one which has to be specially formulated by the pharmacy due to her small size, and which will be very expensive, and see after two months if that is helping. if not, her other option is an oral chemotherapy, but seuss and i agreed that we’re not going to do that to her. we want her to live out her life feeling as good as possible, not suffering with chemo side effects. at this point, i’m trying not to be too grim, and wait to see what the new medication will do for her. please send healthy doggie thoughts our way!

Oh no, Yoyo! As an owner of a pet with kidney disease, I really feel for you. Hopefully the docs can find some (less-expensive) medical treatment for her, and she can continue being her happy doggy self.
There is a yahoo group just for furkids with kidney disease. It is a great group. I have a small small chihuahua with heart disease and there is a group for that and that group is the only reason my little baby is still with me. Good luck and prayers for your sick baby.
